The
Battle of Berlin |
|
 |
| |
| |
| |
|
| |
Following a punishing five years during which the Nazi war machine killed over 10 million Soviet |
| |
soldiers and over 11 million civilians, the Red Army reached the banks of the Oder River in early |
| |
April, 1945, 50 kilometers east of Berlin. 1.3 million Soviet Soldiers faced a crippled Nazi defense, |
| |
consisting substantially of old men, teenagers and women of the Volkssturm (Home Guard). They |
| |
descended upon Berlin for what Marshal Georgy K. Zukhov called their “final hour of vengeance.” |

This tour of the Battle of Berlin follows the crucial details of the battle, including troop movements, |
| |
the master strategies of leading generals, andthe experiences of infantry soldiers and Berlin |
